The 2020 SonicWall Cyber Threat Report provides critical threat intelligence to help organisations gain a better understanding of cybercriminal intelligence. 

We present highlights of the full report and what you need to watch out for this year: 

• Global malware reduced but attacks were more evasive with higher degrees of success, particularly against so-called soft targets including healthcare, education and governmental bodies.
• Our increasing dependence on IoT technology lead to a 5% increase in malware with over 34 million attacks exposed.
• Web app attacks doubled.  During 2019 over 40 million were detected; a 52% year on year increase.
• SonicWall technology discovered 153,909 'never-before-seen' malware variants.  Their Real-Time Deep Memory Inspection technology leverages proprietary machine learning capabilities to recognise and mitigate unseen attacks.
• Encrypted threats increased by up to 27%, with almost 4 million being identified.
